As the summer winds down and the hectic summer pace begins to reside, it is often the perfect time for a wedding. Summer just feels like a more celebratory time. Let’s face it, summer is a much better time to take a honeymoon as well. For all the positives that exist to having a summer wedding, we found a handful of wedding myths exist as well.
1. That it has to be formal (and therefore more expensive).
Weddings are no longer always the black tie formal affair that they once were, in summer or any time of the year. You can be barefoot at the beach, have a bohemian style wedding or a themed wedding of just about any kind.
You can still add an air of sophistication without busting the budget by choosing a few high-end accents such as more dramatic centerpieces for the tables and a more sophisticated chair style to accent the room. For example, the chiavari chair style, in either wood or resin, each with many different color choices such as gold or champagne, would be a perfect upgrade accent to your wedding reception.
2. It must be an outdoor wedding.
While there are many places, like the beach and various coastal destinations where an outside wedding can be an amazing experience, exchanging nuptials in July or August outdoors in places like Atlanta, Orlando or Memphis can be a hot, humid, sticky mess. In other areas, such as the Plains states and many parts of Florida, it’s quite common to have quick (and sometimes unexpected) afternoon rain showers. That 20-minute storm could really put a damper on your wedding day festivities and it could be tiring for hundreds of your wedding guests as they wait for your outdoor wedding to begin.
For those brides still intent on an outdoor summer setting, having an easy, indoor back-up plan is essential. Flower arrangements which can be easily transported inside and seating that can be moved quickly are especially helpful.
Resin or wood folding wedding chairs are the perfect choice to fill this need. Whether finished in white, natural wood, mahogany, fruitwood, or black, each offers a padded seat and a classic look to add to your wedding day. Added benefits with the resin folding wedding chairs—which have a very similar look to the wood folding wedding chair design—are there load tested weight of 1,000 lbs. static weight and durable resin finish which can be easily wiped down.
3. Summer weddings are only for destination weddings.
With soaring guest lists that include people from all walks of life, destination weddings are not as common as you might think. With the right venue and a visionary wedding planner, we have seen outdoor venue tents turned into an oasis paradise out of a magazine! Massive rooms can be transformed into rustic retreats, exotic settings or modern twists on classic settings.
With the right accent pieces of linens, centerpieces, place settings, lighting, chair covers, and other details, a wedding reception can be turned into almost any place or theme you desire. Even the wedding chairs you select can give an added touch of comfort and grace. Those cold, uncomfortable metal folding chairs of yesteryear be gone as elegant, wood x-back chairs are now much more common in wedding and banquet halls.
4. You must use specific colors to match with summer tradition.
Gone are the days of the strictly pastel-colored, summer weddings. Today, you are just as likely to attend weddings with rich colors like purple, royal blue or burgundy with accent colors in gold, silver or ivory. Others want more vibrant colors like fuchsia, bright yellow, or even a mix of several colors.
5. Your wedding must exactly match that of your childhood dreams.
While most brides have been dreaming about their wedding days since they were little girls, some of those mental images and expectations may no longer match with modern day. Getting married at a romantic, countryside castle sounded great when you were eight, but as an adult, you now realize these are not exactly plentiful around the United States. And having a dragon as the ring-bearer, well, that’s definitely out!
Perhaps you envisioned something extremely luxurious not realizing, as a child, that such a wedding would include a $200,000 price tag in present day. There are ways to pare down without losing the same general feeling or atmosphere you are going for with your venue. Changing the day of the week can bring huge cost savings in some cases. Reducing the invite list to just the absolute must-haves is another way to reduce costs. Renting tuxedos and other items instead of buying. Eliminating alcohol at the reception or greatly reducing the selection or how long an open bar is offered. Using artificial flowers instead of real ones in some areas.
What’s really important is how will you feel about these decisions in 10 years? It’s doubtful you will even remember going with cheaper centerpieces or using chiavari chairs without renting chair covers. And more importantly, do you still want to be paying for this wedding three years from now? Millennials and many other couples are now seeing the advantages of putting more of their money into the honeymoon or saving some of the money they would have used on the wedding to use as a down payment on their first home.
When the I do’s have been said and celebrated, what will remain are the memories of your time together with family and friends on your special day, not the menu you had or the name of the band you hired for the event.
