Do's and Don'ts to Choosing Your Ideal Wedding Season - CTC Event Furniture

Posted by Ryan Owens on

It’s time to save the date! Choosing a date for your wedding requires several considerations that couples often overlook. The most common factor in choosing the ideal wedding season is typically the weather. The weather will affect your wedding style, location, decor elements, and may set a completely different tone for your guests. But what else do you need to consider when choosing which season you’ll set your date? Read on for the top dos and don’ts for choosing the wedding season that’s right for you.

DO inquire about the availability of your must-have vendors.

Summer tends to be “wedding season” in many locations which means the competition for the best venues, photographers, caterers, and DJs may be in high demand during these months. If there’s a specific vendor you absolutely must have for your wedding, consider choosing your season around their availability.

DON’T overlook the weather-resistance of your furniture.

Weather can be unpredictable and while you’ll cross your fingers that you’re presented with the perfect forecast, you need to prepare for all types of weather. If your ceremony will be outside, you’ll need seating and tables that can withstand not only rain, but also strong winds, snow, or hail. Choose furniture that’s sturdy and won’t get damaged when wet. Worried that weather-friendly furniture won’t fit with your decor? Check out these ideas on how to personalize your chairs to match your style.

DO consider your budget.

Your budget can play a big role in choosing your wedding season. If you’re working with a tight budget, some vendors often have off-season prices that might help you save a bit of money. Or if you’re inclined to a summer wedding which tend to be pricier, you may need to adjust your budget accordingly. If you think you’ll opt for a winter wedding, don’t forget to set aside additional money for things like heaters and blankets if your event will be outside.

DON’T forget about holidays.

Some couples choose to get married around holidays because it’s easier for guests to get time off from work if they need to travel, but it might also mean guests already have plans on these days. Some types of vendors may be closed on holidays, as well. When choosing your ideal wedding season, don’t forget about the holidays that fall around that time of year as they could impact your decision.

DO factor in the availability of flowers.

When you imagine the bouquet you’ll be walking down the aisle with, it’s important to ensure those types of flowers will be available in your chosen season -- some flowers aren’t available year-round.

DON’T abandon your theme.

The time of year you have your wedding should align with your theme. If you’ve thought about colors and decor, ensure they’ll fit with the time of year. For example, coral may not mesh well with a winter wedding and burgundy might look out of place on a scorching hot summer day.

Use these tips to choose the perfect wedding theme!

DO factor in your honeymoon.

Always envisioned you and your future spouse to be sipping piña coladas on the beach after your wedding? You may not appreciate a hot getaway as much if it’s warm at home, too. Some destinations have busy seasons where flights, hotels, and tourism costs are through the roof (like New Orleans in February around Mardi Gras, for example). Choose a wedding season that will allow you to take the honeymoon you’ve envisioned that fits within your budget.

DON’T choose a season that you don’t already love.

Just because a particular season is more affordable or fits with your decor, it doesn’t mean it’s the perfect match for you and your fiance. If you’re typically a little more stressed out at some points in the year (maybe due to your job), getting married around this time of year might be an added stressor. Choose the time of year you tend to be happiest!

DO make a list of the big decisions before choosing your season.

While you might think choosing your ideal wedding season might be one of the first decisions to make in your planning process, you need to ensure the decisions you make afterwards will fit with the date. Jot down some rough ideas to the following questions to help you choose the perfect season for you and your fiancé.

  • Style of venue?
  • Indoor or outdoor ceremony?
  • Colors?
  • Decor style?

Once you’ve narrowed down your season, a lot of the to do’s will be easier to cross off your list.
